Nesianetwork.id - In 2018, Ma Dong Seok appeared again in a thriller drama genre film with an action flavor. The film titled The Villagers aired on November 7, 2018 with a duration of 99 minutes and managed to get a gross income of US$2.8 million.

The Korean film The Villagers is directed by Im Jin-sun for producer Seo Jong-hae and the screenplay is written by Im Jin-sun.

Storyline of the movie The Villagers

Yeok Gi-cheol, played by Ma Dong-seok, has just left his job as a boxing school instructor, he then moves to a relatively remote village and registers for a vacancy as a BK teacher at a female-only high school.

His job was mostly to collect SPP fees from late or unpaid students, until one day he saw bully activity on a girl who was carrying a missing persons poster.

It turns out that the student Kang Yoo-jin played by Kim Sae-ron is also included in the list of late paying SPP, and a name that turns out to be his friend Han Soo-yeon played by  Shin Se-hwi who has "left home" for a long time.

Here lies the mystery, did Han Soo Yeon really leave home or was she kidnapped?

The thing that I have to give a thumbs up from The Villagers movie and many Korean movies in general is the many twists in one movie, it's like we are taken to the groove already knowing who is good and bad but then it is diverted with another twist even until the last minute, very interesting.

That's my impression on the film that I initially underestimated with the simplicity of the plot that was developed at the beginning. But getting to the middle and towards the end of the plot twists a lot.

Kang Yoo-jin does not give up to keep looking for where his friend went, the first clue is a logo on the packaging of a match which after being traced is a night club. He was desperate to get in, luckily he was followed by the teacher Yeok Gi-cheol and saved from the gangsters.

The problem gets more complicated, when one of the young teachers who is still an intern at the same school turns out to be a pornography maniac, he installs a hidden camera in the women's toilet and manages to kidnap Kang Yoo Jin under the pretext of helping him find his friend.

The tension became more tense, when it was known that the young apprentice teacher was the son of the school principal, and this school principal was fighting in the local regent election.

There are a lot of things, finally, at the end we know that the perpetrator of Han Soo-yeon's murder is his own school principal. How is the story? one day when he felt he needed money, he joined as an entertainer in a cafe and the guest was the school principal.

He got a sick call from his grandmother, he meant to ask for permission to go home but it was not given, it turned out that he recognized the man as his school principal, not wanting his shame to be revealed he ordered his men to clean up and Han Soo Yeon mysteriously disappeared.

It was only revealed later, when Kang Yoo Jin was also considered dangerous for the school principal who was nominating the regent, he would be eliminated as well, the severity of his son getting involved again. The teacher Yeok Gi-cheol acts with a background as a boxing coach and athlete he managed to save his student.

His proximity to a young police officer who still upholds justice can finally reveal this scandal and mysterious murder. The film The Villagers, which aired on November 7, is one of the 7 Korean films released in November 2018 that are interesting to watch, along with Ode to the Goose (November 8), The Wrath (November 8), Unfinished (November 14), Happy Together ( November 15), Beautiful Days (November 21) and Unstoppable (November 22) which also stars Ma Dong Seok.

The script for this film was written by Jon Spaihts, Eric Roth and Denis Villeneuve based on the novel Dune by Frank Herbert. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.

The film Dune premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 3 2021 and was shown in Indonesia on October 13 2021 and in the United States on October 22 2021.

Synopsis of the 2021 DUNE film

In the distant human future, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) accepts stewardship of a dangerous desert planet called Arrakis, also known as Dune, the sole source of the most valuable substance in the universe, the "spice", a drug that can prolong human life. , providing a very high level of human thinking and making travel at the very high speed of light possible.

Review and Explanation of the Ending of the 2021 DUNE Film

Many people say that watching the 2.5 hour film Dune makes you sleepy because the story is slow and there are lots of conversations, but I don't think that's the case after watching it yesterday after work.

For those of you who like films by director  Denis Villeneuve, you can definitely understand this, such are his characteristics, such as when working on the films Blade Runner 2049, Arrival 2016 and my favorite, Sicario, which was broadcast in 2016.

Predicted to be a contender for the galaxy films Star Wars and Star Trek, it seems from the story side that Dune will be able to compete.

Rather than the exploitation of shootouts or chases in empty space, the intrigue of the struggle for power and politics is very strong in this remake film.

In general, Dune tells the story of how the empire suppressed a kingdom called Atreides, the ruler of a sea-mountain planet that was growing day by day and becoming a threat to the empire.

The way to do this is by giving power to power and getting the task of mining rare and expensive minerals called "spices" on a desert planet called Arrakis.

Previously, for 80 years, this colony was managed by another kingdom called Harkonnen, suddenly this change made Harkonnen not accept it and carried out a coup which was actually predicted by King Atreides.

Unfortunately, the struggle for power occurred with a drama of betrayal from within so that Atreides was not ready to fight with all his strength.

The crown prince, the future successor to King Atrides, named Paul, survived with his mother after successfully escaping from the enemy and meeting the Fremen tribe, native to the planet Arrakis.

The film ends just when the new story starts to get exciting and hot, Paul, who is also mentioned in the prediction of the Fremen tribe to become the leader of "Al Mahdi" or "Lisan Al Ghaib" is living his destiny towards becoming the next leader of the Atreides and Fremen with the aim of regaining power. taken by the Harkonnen and the tyrannical empire.

Hopefully the Dune film will be financially successful, so that the sequel Dune Chapter Two can be produced and answer the audience's curiosity regarding the continuation of Paul's struggle, even though we know this film is based on the best-selling science fiction novel by Frank Herbert.

The technological side displayed is also interesting, sophisticated, combining futuristic and ancient sides at the same time.

The Plot of the Film Dune Reminds the History of Colonization in Indonesia

While many people associate the film Dune with terms in Islam and the Middle East, after the film ended what came to my mind was the history of colonialism in Indonesia.

The planet Arrakis is like an archipelago with its wealth of spices. Countries came that initially wanted to trade, then wanted to rule and colonize, then a collective consciousness began to emerge to fight and fight for independence.

Arrakis as a planet and the Fremen as its local population could only be seen and exploited by the invaders who came and went, the empire, the Harkonnen and the Atreides.

Similar to the archipelago and Indonesia, which at least in historical records was colonized by 6 countries because of its spice and natural wealth.

1. Portuguese

Portugal became the first country to colonize the Indonesian archipelago. The Portuguese colonized Indonesia for approximately 86 years from 1509 to 1595.

 

2. Spain

Spain became the second country to colonize Indonesia. Spain collaborated with the Tidore kingdom under the guise of trading spices which were very abundant in Indonesia at that time. 

Spain colonized Indonesia for quite a long time, namely from 1521 to 1962.

Overall, Dune is a drama film set in the future and space war, which is interesting and recommended to watch, so you don't get sleepy, stay enthusiastic and provide coffee.

3. Netherlands

The Dutch were the country that colonized Indonesia the longest, for almost 3 and a half centuries they controlled Indonesia. The Dutch began to colonize Indonesia from 1602 to 1942.

Development began after Legendary Entertainment acquired film and television rights for Dune in 2016. Villeneuve signed on as director for the film in 2017, with the intention of making a two-part adaptation of the novel due to its complexity. Production contracts were only secured for a first film, with the second film having to be green-lit based on the first's success.

Dune: Part Two had its world premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on February 15, 2024. It is set to be released in the United States on March 1, 2024, after being delayed from a late-2023 release due to the Hollywood labor disputes.

Princess Irulan Corrino secretly journals that Paul Atreides may still be alive, while her father, Emperor Shaddam IV, is dispirited after the fall of House Atreides. At the Sietch, suspicions arise about Jessica and Paul being spies. Some Fremen have faith in Paul and Jessica, believing in the prophecy of a mother and son bringing prosperity to Arrakis.

Paul embraces Fremen ways and learns their language, passing tests like riding a sandworm. He forms a romantic relationship with Chani and assists during raids on Harkonnen spice harvesters, earning the names ‘Muad’Dib' and 'Usul.’ Jessica nefariously guides his ascent against his own judgment, fueling the religion of which she has become a prominent figure. Rabban, whose grip on spice production has been loosening, intensifies raids on the Fremen to please the Baron, who returns to his homeworld of Giedi Prime. He assumes full power over the Fremen and challenges the Emperor, who arrives on Arrakis with Irulan, Mohiam, and his Sardaukar troops. Dune: Part Two will be released in the IMAX 70 mm format to twelve venues worldwide, following the success of Oppenheimer (2023).

A red carpet event was hosted in the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City on February 6, 2024. Dune: Part Two's world premiere was held at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on February 15.

Oh boy! Barely 24 hours after Disney's initial copyright on Mickey Mouse expired, two new indie horror films starring the beloved character have been announced.

Steamboat Willie, the first Disney movie to feature Mickey, entered the public domain under US law on Monday, 95 years on from its initial release.

That means anyone is now free to copy, share, reuse and adapt the primitive, early versions of the characters that appear within the film, including Mickey and his girlfriend Minnie.

Despite warnings from Disney that it would seek to safeguard its most iconic character, opportunistic filmmakers had been expected to quickly announce their own unofficial remakes and adaptations – and they did not disappoint.

Mickey's Mouse Trap will feature a masked killer dressed as Mickey stalking a group of young friends through an amusement arcade, while another untitled horror-comedy sees a sadistic mouse tormenting unsuspecting ferry passengers.

"We just wanted to have fun with it all," said Mickey's Mouse Trap director Jamie Bailey, in a trailer posted on YouTube.

"I mean it's Steamboat Willie's Mickey Mouse murdering people. It's ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows."

The low-budget horror-comedy is expected to launch in March.

Meanwhile filmmaker Steven LaMorte – known for The Mean One, a 2022 slasher romp inspired by The Grinch – is working on his own "twisted take" on Mickey.

"Steamboat Willie has brought joy to generations, but beneath that cheerful exterior lies a potential for pure, unhinged terror," he said in a press release.

Production on the untitled film is due to begin this spring.

Both projects are reminiscent of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood And Honey, a micro-budget slasher film that drew headlines last year after the copyright on the first AA Milne books expired.

Analysts say Disney will be watching closely, and is likely to send in the lawyers if anyone oversteps.

Only the earliest, black-and-white version of Mickey is in the public domain – not the colourful character from later Disney films like Fantasia.

And trademark protections mean that any film or product that could mislead consumers into thinking it was made by Disney could be liable.

"We will, of course, continue to protect our rights in the more modern versions of Mickey Mouse and other works that remain subject to copyright, and we will work to safeguard against consumer confusion caused by unauthorised uses of Mickey and our other iconic characters," said a Disney statement.

But LaMorte told Variety he was not concerned.

"We are doing our due diligence to make sure there's no question or confusion of what we're up to," he said.

"This is our version of a public domain character."

Narrative About Arthelais

An untrustworthy legend has Arthelais as a native of Constantinople, the daughter of an imperial proconsul named Lucius and his wife Anthusa. She is said to have been pursued by Justinian, who desired her; however, Arthelais had taken a vow of chastity. At her own request, she was sent with three servants to her uncle Narses in Italy, but was kidnapped by robbers along the way. Her servants had recourse to the Church of Saint Eulalia, where they prayed for their mistress' safe return, and gave alms to the poor from their expense money.

The robbers intended to sell their captive for immoral purposes, but an angel slew the goaler and freed her. The devil seized the rest of the robbers. Arthelais soon met her servants, and they proceeded to Siponto. From there she went to the Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo to make an offering in thanksgiving. Her uncle Narses went to meet her and brought her back to Benevento.

Here she settled and lived in prayer and piety exercises, working many miracles. Stricken by fever, she was transported to the church of San Luca, where she died at the age of seventeen. Her relics were later transferred to the Cattedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria de Episcopio.

Disaster rocked Korea unexpectedly. When Baekdu - the highest mountain in Korea erupted and spewed ash into the atmosphere. A major disaster is now threatening Seoul (South Korea) and Pyongyang (North Korea). To deal with this disaster, a South Korean explosives expert (Ha Jung Woo) must work together with a North Korean special official (Lee Byung Hun) and the number one geologist (Ma Dong Seok) to stop a devastating disaster that could cause Korea to disappear from the world map forever. 

Review Ashfall Movie 

The story is simple, bombing the side of a mountain so that the lava leaks out before the next eruption which could trigger a more powerful earthquake and tusnami. The CGI displayed is very neat, it's natural that this film is made by Dexter Studios, which has successfully presented the epic story Along With The Gods.

The ending of the story reminds me of the title of the film that I mentioned at the beginning, namely Armageddon, the mission is to detonate a bomb so that the earth is safe. Unfortunately it has to be triggered manually for various reasons, and yes, you have to let one of the main characters sacrifice themselves so that the others are safe.

Talking about Disaster Movies, Indonesia actually also has a film called Bangkit which was released in 2016 and stars Vino G Bastian, telling the story of flash floods that hit Jakarta. Even though the CGI side is still far behind, at least we already have local films in the disaster genre.

Overall it is interesting to watch, for those who missed the quiet cinema screening period, the film Ashfall can be enjoyed on Google Play Movies, you can rent it online. Score 7.5/10, happy watching.

In terms of story, it's actually good considering that this film is an adaptation of a popular comic about a villain with many fans who have been waiting for a long time for the live action version.

The CGI and action are no less interesting, the details of the nano bots, the fist fights and shooting scenes are enjoyable to enjoy.

If there is a weakness in this film, it is Vin Diesel's acting which I can't differentiate when playing the character Dominic Toretto in the Fast Furious Franchise, it seems like he needs to try an extreme different role in order to get out of Toretto's impression in all his films, for example try a comedy genre film.

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and Anthony Hopkins. The film is set in a fictional galaxy ruled by the Motherworld, in which its military, the Imperium, threatens a farming colony on the moon Veldt, and Kora, a former Imperium soldier, ventures on a quest to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to make a stand against the Imperium before they return to Veldt.

Rebel Moon had a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 15, 2023, and was released by Netflix on December 21, 2023. The film received generally negative reviews from critics.

An extended cut is set for release in early 2024, while a direct sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, is scheduled for release on April 19, 2024.

The Plot

In a distant galaxy, the Motherworld is a militaristic empire fueled by centuries of conquest and war. The current king welcomes a daughter, Princess Issa, who possesses a rare gift of healing and resurrection. This is taken as a sign of redemption for the Motherworld, as the royal family has grown weary of conflict and hopes that Issa will unify the empire not through force but through compassion. Instead, Issa and her parents are publicly assassinated during her coronation, and Balisarius, a prominent senator, declares himself Regent and renews the empire's conquests with the support of Admiral Atticus Noble, a sadistic military leader.

On the independent planet of Veldt, Noble and his men arrive and insist that Father Sindri, a local village chieftain, sell them grain to replenish their food stocks as they hunt for a band of rebels known as Clan Bloodaxe. An ambitious farmer named Gunnar disagrees with Sindri's refusal to deal with Noble; the Admiral then beats Sindri to death and orders Gunnar to prepare all of the village's grain before he returns. One of the villagers, Kora, packs her things to leave, but when she sees Imperium soldiers attempting to rape a young woman, she confronts and kills them. Kora reveals to the villagers that she is a former member of the Imperium, the Motherworld's finest troops.

Kora and Gunnar depart for Providence, a nearby port town, to assemble a band of warriors and defend Veldt against Noble's fleet. They first recruit Kai, a smuggler and criminal. He takes them to two additional warriors, a tamer of beasts known as Tarak and a talented cyborg swordswoman, Nemesis. Kora ventures to a remote moon to recruit Titus, a disgraced Imperium commander reduced to prize fighting. Gunnar learns from Kora that she was raised by Balisarius after her world fell to the Imperium, and that she feels a sense of guilt for Issa's death as she once served as the princess's bodyguard.

Knowing that they cannot defend against Noble's ship, the King's Gaze, the warriors use Gunnar's previous dealings with Clan Bloodaxe to meet their leaders, siblings Darrian and Devra, and request the use of their starfighters. Darrian and half the clan agree to help, but Devra, who considers such a fight hopeless and a waste of their resources, retreats with the other half to safety.

Under the pretense of offloading the last of his illicit goods to start a new life, Kai takes the group to a trading post, but captures them as Noble's ship arrives, revealing he had always intended to betray them for the bounties on their heads. Noble reveals Kora's true name as Arthelais. Gunnar kills Kai and frees the group, and Darrian and many of his troops are killed. Kora fights Noble, throwing him off the post's high platform to his apparent death, and the surviving warriors make their way back to Veldt together.

Heavily injured but alive, Noble is recovered by Motherworld forces and revived after having a psychic conversation with Balisarius, who demands that Noble end the insurgency against him and bring Kora to him alive so he can execute her himself.

First impression this movie is Zack Snyder with otentic icon like slow motion and cgi remain me to his old movies 300.

Over All  Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is good, but not good enough if weare compare with another Zack movies like Man of Steel or Watchman which is masterpiece.

8. Copo A Copo (Japan)

9. Out (Japan)

Tatsuya Iguchi (Yuki Kura) was a juvenile delinquent in Tokyo and led a motorcycle gang. After he was released from juvenile detention, he begins to live a new life and doesn't go back to his hometown. Instead, he begins to live with his aunt in Nishi-Chiba and will work at a barbecue beef restaurant. If he gets involved in any fights, he will be kicked out. On the first day of his release, he gets into a fight with Kaname Abe (Koshi Mizukami), who is second in command of motorcycle gang Kirihito. 

The motorcycle gang Kirihito is led by Atsushi Tanzawa (Kotaro Daigo). Tatsuya Iguchi won the fight against Kaname Abe, but they agree to keep it a secret because Tatsuya Iguchi doesn’t want to go back to juvenile detention and Kaname Abe doesn’t want to people to know he got his butt kicked. A friendship soon ensues between the two. Tatsuya Iguchi also meets Chihiro Minagawa (Yuki Yoda). Chihiro Minagawa’s older brother was the leader of motorcycle gang Kirihito, but he died in a fight with another motorcycle gang. Chihiro Minagawa currently works at a bowling alley. She doesn’t hesitate to speak bluntly with motorcycle gang Kirihito leader Atsushi Tanzawa to stop its battles with other motorcycle gangs.

Jeon Doo-Gwang (Hwang Jung-Min) is the commander of the Defense Security Command and founder of the secret military club Hanahoe. 11. Kubi (Japan)

Nobunaga Oda (Ryo Kase) pursues the unification of the entire country and fights against rivals on multiple fronts, including the Mori, Takeda, and Uesugi clans. In the midst of these battles, Nobunaga Oda’s own vassal Murashige Araki (Kenichi Endo) stages a rebellion against him and then disappears. Nobunaga Oda gathers his vassals, including Mitsuhide Akechi (Hidetoshi Nishijima) and Hideyoshi Toyotomi (Takeshi Kitano), and orders them to find Murashige Araki. He promises that the one who is successful will become his successor.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi along with his younger brother Hidenaga and his military adviser Kanbee Kuroda (Tadanobu Asano) devises a secret plan. They recruit storyteller Shinzaemon Sorori (Yuichi Kimura), who is a former ninja, to find Murashige Araki. Beyond the capture of Murashige Araki, Hideyoshi Toyotomi plans to take control over the country by removing Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi.

12. Single in Seoul (Korea)

Young-Ho (Lee Dong-Wook) is a popular essay instructor. He is a power influencer, who posts about single life on social media. He receives a recommendation to write "Single in Seoul."

Hyun-Jin (Lim Soo-Jung) is a chief editor of publishing company. She is good at her work, but her dating life isn't nearly as successful. In order to publish "Single in Seoul," she meets Young-Ho.
